Help Save a Dying Craft: Support the Publication of “Brick, Bonds and Bowtells”

92-year-old company director Peter Minter is putting a lifetime of knowledge into print. Peter has written a new book to mark the family’s 90th anniversary in Bulmer: Brick, Bonds and Bowtells - an accessible, richly illustrated introduction for enthusiasts and the general public and a genuinely useful technical resource for architects, conservators, and construction professionals who need to understand a brickmaker’s perspective on the buildings they work on.

But there’s a challenge: Peter is determined that the book remain affordably priced, so it can reach the widest possible audience — students, hobbyists, and professionals alike, not just those who can afford a premium heritage title. The costs of publishing, printing, storage, and distribution make that a difficult balance to strike without support. That’s where you come in. A contribution — of any size — from individuals, trusts, or heritage societies would help offset these production costs and keep the book within reach of the people who need it most: the next generation who will carry this endangered craft forward.

Every donation is an investment in a skill that has survived for centuries — and in the buildings across Britain that depend on these skills still.
