Bulmer Brick & Tile Co

Traditional Brick Cutting

Traditional Brick Cutting is a long-established division of Bulmer Brick & Tile. We specialise in high-quality, hand-cut, gauged pieces from our own washed clay BBT Rubbers.

Our cutting services also include cutting from our own hand-made facing bricks into plinths, squints, etc, according to your requirements, if moulding is not an option. You can bring in your own bricks for cutting and bonding where bespoke solutions are required.

Help Save a Dying Craft: Support the Publication of “Brick, Bonds and Bowtells”

92-year-old company director Peter Minter is putting a lifetime of knowledge into print. Peter has written a new book to mark the family’s 90th anniversary in Bulmer: Brick, Bonds and Bowtells - an accessible, richly illustrated introduction for enthusiasts and the general public and a genuinely useful technical resource for architects, conservators, and construction professionals who need to understand a brickmaker’s perspective on the buildings they work on.

But there’s a challenge: Peter is determined that the book remain affordably priced, so it can reach the widest possible audience — students, hobbyists, and professionals alike, not just those who can afford a premium heritage title. The costs of publishing, printing, storage, and distribution make that a difficult balance to strike without support. That’s where you come in. A contribution — of any size — from individuals, trusts, or heritage societies would help offset these production costs and keep the book within reach of the people who need it most: the next generation who will carry this endangered craft forward.

Every donation is an investment in a skill that has survived for centuries — and in the buildings across Britain that depend on these skills still.
